How much will this cost?

Hi. I'm new here. I've been thinking of going to MAGfest for a few months, and I'm wondering how I do this. I've never been to a convention before, and I'm living in Canada, so I'd have to travel by plane.

Right now, I'm trying to work out how much going to this convention will cost. This is what I have so far:

Individual Costs
40 - Preregister
15 - T-Shirt
?? - Food
?? - Travel (plane tickets, cab fare, etc.)
87 - Passport
?? - Loot

Can be shared
400 - rooms for 4 nights

Total If Alone
542 + Travel + Food + Loot

Total If in 4 person group
242 + Travel + Food + Loot

I'm wondering how much I should expect to spend on food, cab fare, and the loot that the dealers are going to be selling.

I'd also like to know what incidental costs I'm forgetting in this.

...yikes. I just checked prices for Air travel and the cheapest flight is $900. I'll assume that there are about $50 in hidden fees. This brings the new totals to:

Total If Alone
1442 + Travel + Food + Loot

Total If in 4 person group
1042 + Travel + Food + Loot

Okay then. It looks like I'll have to postpone until next year. Still, I'd like to know if I was missing, underestimating, or overestimating any costs.

You might want to check and see how much it is to fly on Dec 30th or even Dec 29th. I don't know if you tried orbitz.com or not but you might want to check there. I was suprised how much cheaper it was for me to fly early. The Magfest ppl seam nice so you could proably crash for free at one of their pads. Come to the irc room and meet everyone.

How much will this cost?

Once you arrive at MAGFest - you really won't need much in the way of cab fare. We are self-contained within the Hotel.

There are free shuttle buses (Vans) from the hotel to shopping/food areas during the day. You have to think about and schedule these trips as the shuttles do not run all night.

The Hotel also has a shuttle from Reagan National Airport.

As for your registration and shirt - if you would consider staffing during the event (There is a link on the website about the hours we ask, and what you get in return.... you could get your registration cost and t-shirt money refunded to you.)

Where in Canada are you traveling from?

I know Amtrack travels to Canada through NY and from NY to DC (New York City to Washington DC).... Once in DC you can use Metro (Subway) to the Hotel's shuttle service.

-- I did this part myself last year, took Greyhound from NYC, to DC then Metro to the Hotel Shuttle.

Chinatown bus from NYC to DC is way cheaper than Greyhound.

Is there a thread for people who don't mind sharing rooms?
It would be nice to shave the hotel cost from $99 a night to one-fourth that.
That, or I find a campground nearby...bwahahaha...
